Overheating issue

I recently bought a secondhand MacBook Pro 2019 16 inch form CEX for around £1,000 and it’s been having severe overheating problems just from trying to edit photos and using a second display, i’m thinking of selling it but I don’t know if all other Macs will be the same, so is it worth me investment in a brand-new one?
