Dismissive of me

This is specifically family members who do this.

Sometimes I’ll want to share things with family members. This will usually be some funny video or something I’ve found interesting on the web.

People will just be dismissive of what I’m trying to share. Like, they’re too busy with their screens and I’m just a bother.

What I’m showing them isn’t of any importance. What gets me is how it makes me feel. Like I’m just a bother to them. A nuisance.

Scenario one, I’m trying to ask my partner what pizza he’d like to get. I read all the specialty pizzas out and look at him for answer. It seems as if he stopped listening shortly after he agreed to get a pizza for dinner. I ask if I need to read it again and he says yes. Half way through the list, he tells me to just hand him my phone because he isn’t listening.

Scenario two, my sister has gotten home and we’ve been chatting a little bit about the new toaster I got. Shortly after, I tell her that I found a funny video and decide to show her. She had just finished making her food and set up her cellphone with some video playing in the background while she ate. As I showed her my phone, she suddenly got annoyed and in a whining voice said that she wanted to eat.

These types of experiences definitely make me feel worthless. They make me feel like I shouldn’t interact with them so this doesn’t keep happening. It’s not to be spiteful. I just don’t like how it makes me feel. Like an annoyance they rather not have around.

Sometimes I wish I could just live alone. Like, away from all humans. I feel like I would be happier. No one to make me feel bad and no appearances to upkeep. No one to get mad at me over spilt milk. Unfortunately, I don’t think that will ever really happen.

So what do I do? How can I handle these situations and stop putting my self in instances where I’ll get hurt?
