Sony A80L upscaling vs Apple TV 4k / Nvidia Shield upscaling

Sorry for the newb question - but basically the majority of what I watch is sports (streamed through apps such as ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC sports, TNT) and some Netflix/Disney. I am in a basement with dark lighting. My understanding that streaming live sports is usually in low quality content and upscaling may make a difference, and that the Sony 77" A80L may be my best bet.

I bought a 75" U8K but am disappointed with the sports viewing experience, and then I bought an Apple TV 4K to try to improve it but it didn't make much of a difference. I'm considering whether it's worth switching the Apple TV 4K with an Nvidia Shield Pro to see if it can upscale the sports on my U8K or if I should just get the Sony 77" A80L.

Short version of my question: Is the upscaling on A80L better for sports than Nvidia Shield Pro or Apple TV 4K?

If I do get the A80L, would using Apple TV 4K screw up the A80L upscaling?
