Men get lots of compliments actually

Ok, clickbait title out of the way.

I want to take a second to discuss something that I've seen a lot in this community, and across the wider discourse of mens struggles.

I think it's far more accurate to say "men rarely get compliments on their appearance", however the notion than "men never get compliments" is just untrue. Men get complimented all the time at work, if you've ever heard someone say "nice job on that report", or "That was a really good presentation" - that's a compliment!

And men get compliments for quite literally doing the bare minimum when it comes to childcare, I've heard men being called great dads for taking their kids out to the park once. Once!

I'd challenge every man here to listen out for compliments. Stop focussing on compliments about appearance and just take some time to consider all the other areas of your life that people will compliment you in.

It's absolutely reasonable to be upset or insecure about not getting compliments on what you look like, but let's be accurate about the problem that we're facing here. The vague "men get no compliments" complaint is not helpful, and frankly comes off as spiteful.

At least that's my view.
