r/martialarts, please could you spare a few minutes to help me with my research?

Hi All,

Can you help with my PhD research? It only takes approx. 10 mins of your time.

I am a BJJ practitioner and PhD student. My PhD is focused on consent in combat sports/martial arts. The research is being done in order to understand how informed people are of the risks of their chosen sport, such as certain injuries, infections, weight cuts or general training/comp scenarios. Or if you are informed, why you still choose to continue training/competing.

How Can You get involved?

If you're involved in combat sports, whether you're a seasoned pro, just starting out, or retired. I'd love to hear from you. You can participate by:

The survey only takes 5-10 minutes. There is the opportunity for interviews, but that is entirely up to you. Interviews are a little longer, but would be hugely helpful (also the part I enjoy the most). I am based in the UK, but would be happy to work with any time differences to make an online interview work.

Few basic qualifiers:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Have at least 6 months of experience in any combat sport/martial art

For further information, please see here.

Why Should You Participate? Apart from contributing to combat sports research, it's a chance to nerd out over BJJ/combat sports generally and share any interesting experiences you've had (good or bad). Plus, if you're interested, I'll happily share my findings as they are published.

Please drop me a message if you have any questions.

Many thanks,
