Hi, I got my beta June 2021.

Recently I’ve noticed that he isn’t as active, and his colors are mushy brown. He has fin rot on one of his pelvic fins. I somehow convinced myself I bought him that way only to find that it was most actually due to me not cleaning his tank as regularly earlier this year due to me being busy with my last semester in university. It’s improved a bit with water changes and meds (melafix) but seems to have plateaued.

He is kinda active at night (probably from me pulling all nighters due to undergrad) but I’ve been trying to fix his sleeping schedule. It doesn’t seem to be working so I cave and leave his lights on till like 12/1am bc I feel bad.

He still eats like a champ and hasn’t lost weight, although I have noticed that his eyesight has gone bad a little. I’m just worried bc he’s the first betta I gave a real proper life to, after growing up with them in small unheated and unfiltered bowls. He’s my baby Neptune.

I’m fasting him because he seems a little bloated to me atm.

Videos are from the first months after I got him, earlier this year in august, and now.

Does he look sick or is it age? Could it be because I wasn’t as diligent earlier this year? :(

5 gal, heated to a constant 78 degrees f, filtered, somewhat planted, and supplemented w an air stone, and completely cycled (parameters where they should be)

Aquarium salt added as well as almond leaf powder.

Old or sick?
