Melodic techno with a "darker" sound?

The closest I can find is SOME melodic techno/progressive house, but most it is very light. I'm looking for something similar but with lower/darker/deeper sounds. I basically enjoy techno that is dark & hard but I find most of that is repetitive/lacks melody and I personally find it boring. On the flip side I find a lot of melodic techno/progressive house has way too long build ups with lame drops and no sustained part to dance to lol. Any artists I can check out to get started?
