Mr Peppers

I'm re-listening to SS&S on audible and I'm half way through "Going Rogue". Grumble has told Thistle that he doesn't know anything about the boar that joined the party.

Now I know that later on in the series, the link between Timoscore & Mr Peppers is what helps Timoscore unlock paladin powers, but I don't think it was ever explained exactly what Mr Peppers is and why the gods cannot acknowledge his existence.

Can someone clever please explain?
