[Spoiler] Just finished the game - my thoughts
First of all: I've really liked the game. I'm 100 % convinced it was worth the 20 €. I played it the last few days, basically every free minute I didn't have to do Uni stuff (and some minutes I should have ^^'). I definitely enjoyed the story the most. The gameplay was good, but I have a few points:
-
Some sort of map would have been a great addition. There where times where I got lost, especially in the garden, the fortress and the alchemists section. I get that the sewer is supposed to be a maze, but it was just annoying at some points
-
More interactions (context clues) would have benefited the game. I knew most of the glyphs of the devotees already, so I got through there fairly quickly. I think the warriors language was just right regarding difficulty. I really struggled through the bard's language
-
I'm not sure if I would have wanted more streamlining. But I missed interactions and glyphs at some points, and went through levels another order as guides I had to check regarding the first two points. Also at some point I advanced into a new section without having the meaning of the runes I needed to translate runes from the new language.
-
More shortcuts. Having to run stairs up and down was really annoying, especially because, for some, you couldn't click at the stair exit immediately. Also the hitboxes were weird in a few screens.
But as I said, all in all, I enjoyed the game. The graphics are absolutely stunning and the story was really great. I can definitely understand why it's nominated for the Steam Game Awards.
