OU-UT location

Upon learning that OU and UT have reached a long extension to continue playing at the Cotton Bowl, it got me thinking. Why is Oklahoma fine with playing their biggest rivals every year in their own state? I get it’s “neutral site” but still. If The Game was in Detroit every year, I don’t think that would go over too well. So what gives?
