Husband feels empty

partner rant 👤

Hello!

I'm not sure where to start. My husband is generally a moody person, can't tell if he's upset, tired or what. He is also the type that will be happy one min, i'll leave the room for 5 and come back and all of a sudden he looks miserable, cold shoulder and all. Sometimes he wont even talk to me much during the night when our child has fallen asleep (8-11pm), and when i ask him whats up he gets defensive and says "nothing, just tired." He's been like this BEFORE our son.

I've gone back to school so he's basically working and taking care of our son after school. I understand it is exhausting because i've been a stay at home mom for the last 3 years so I know the juggling and the over exhaustion. But he does seem more aloof and distant since i've started school.

Tonight he tells me he has been feeling empty. He feels like he has a void in him that he just can't seem to fix. He generally feels like he has motivation but doesn't know where to put it into. He worries about money a lot, which is normal but (and i HONESTLY am NOT bragging) we have a paid off house, my parents deposit money into my bank account that we both use and my son's school is taken care of by my parents. I think sometimes he is a bit at an in balance because at his age most of his friends are either getting into jobs/ finding a house/ getting married, but he has all of those things basically handed to him. I feel like all those original motivators are now gone so he just feels like a retiree trapped in the life of a 30 something year old who still has to work (yes he has to, we are comfortable but he still pays for our house bills/vacations etc).

I don't know what i'm trying to say in this post, but my husband is empty, he's moody and i honestly think he's depressed. He has done therapy before but sometimes i dont think he really know how to approach his therapist, and how to really open up. I feel like sometimes i ruined him and his drive, sometimes i feel like a walking monkey paw lol he got his dream but he still seems miserable. Maybe i'm just upset/sad because i can't "fix" it.
