My [24F] boyfriend [23M] seems complacent in the relationship
We began our relationship a year and a half ago. We were in the same town for three months and then I moved to a separate town for work. And then he moved to a different state for work about five months after that, so we are currently long distance.
I have had recurring issues where I feel like he is not as emotionally involved in this relationship as he says. Rather than type out the whole history I’ll just give one recent example.
I had to surrender my cat last week and also found out my aunt died this past weekend. I had visited him this weekend too (found out about my relative passing on the plane ride back). I had plans to play a game with him that night and he had forgot because he was playing a different game with his friend (despite me and his friends all in a discord call together) and he called me before going to bed and I told him why I wasn’t in a good mood. I wasn’t close to my aunt, but it was still a shock. He said he was sorry for everything and that was that. Now this week he has texted me only after I texted him and asked if I felt better to which I replied no. He then asked me what I needed from him and I told him to just show that cares in whatever way is meaningful to him. So far, he has replied to my texts and asked me to watch a movie with him over discord at the end of the week. But he hasn’t called me, he hasn’t really texted me much and I see him playing games with his friends each night until he goes to bed (he normally does this).
I am not sure how to feel about it. If I’m being unreasonable or if this is truly him doing the bare minimum. What should I do in this situation to make it work or does it seem like this is going to be the relationship dynamic?
TLDR: unsure if boyfriend is putting the right amount of effort into the relationship
