HDD Repair w/o Data

Question/Advice

Question for this group and I do hope this is an appropriate post...

I have a previously shucked 10TB WD Easystore drive that I very stupidly pulled out of a FreeNAS box live. Pretty sure I killed it. Let me now say I don't care about the data on the disk... I've since replaced the disk and restored my RAIDED NAS just fine but what I am curious of is if I can somehow still save the drive. To me, 10TB ain't exactly something to just toss to the recyclers without some noble attempt.

Since then, I plugged it into my workstation and tried to see if EaseUS could read it, no avail, won't mount, won't do anything but there is NO audible clicking on the drive. I have a theory that I may have just shorted out the controller. To that end I'm thinking about a controller swap, but I'm acutely aware of the possibility that firmwares/calibration/other things might not line up.

Does this matter in my case if data retention is not an issue?
