Buying a new laptop, how is Best Buy's extended warranty options/Total Care
Title says it all. My most recent laptop that I got (Predator Helios 300 PH315-53) just had the dedicated card burn out two nights ago...unfortunately I didn't have any extended warranty, so even though I just bought the PC in May 2021, I'm pretty much left with a brick since it's out of coverage.
As much as this made me want to stay away from Acer, BB has a good deal on one right now that after shopping around is just too far ahead of other deals to switch brands, since I plan on getting an extended warranty this time anyway.
What I'm wondering is:
- Is it worth it to get the "recommended" 2 or 3 year Geek Squad protection that the site suggests? Would my above situation, if it occurred again, be covered by this protection?
- What is the difference in the above and the My Best Buy Total yearly membership that is $179? I was trying to figure out what is most cost effective and it's not super clear if I get a discount on the GS protection for having a Total membership or what
I'm going to make the purchase with my CC that extends warranties as well since last time I bought via Amazon and didn't have that extra coverage.

Total for 180 a year gives you warranty up to 24 months on all new purchases, so if you are only buying the laptop, the 2-3 year will make sense, Total also has a service fee (deductible) when you make a claim of up to $99 for non apple products, but Total will cover virus removal, tune ups, and standard data recovery/transfer where the 1-3 year warranty doesn’t cover, virus removals cost is 150 per service, tune ups price if I recall is 100 or 150, data transfer is 100.
So if your old computer has data on it that you may want us to recover, store level data transfer is covered with Total

Okay, that sounds like all I would need is the Accident Coverage plan from them? I guess I should also look at how much Acer's extended warranty is and compare those too.
I should be good on all of the extra frills of Total, I can still access the data and swap the SSDs from my old laptop. That clears things up for me :) Appreciated!
Also if you buy the porduct and warranty from bestbuy use a credit card ideally extends the coverage amex and visa signature
