Weird experiencing w/a controller flying to CPM with the Biden TFR today
TLDR for anyone curious:
-
Filed IFR PHX>CPM Saturday during the Presidential TFR. Called a weather briefer like 3-4 times to make sure that I was reading the TFR correctly and that CPM is outside of the 10nm ring where you can't land without a prescreening on Saturday. (It was inside that ring for short periods of time on both Friday and Sunday)

Within about 40 miles from destination, controller tells me she doesn't think I can land CPM since there's no approach and asks me my intentions. I say, can I do a visual and cancel with you? She says no. I say okay, well I can just land VFR and stay on with you since I still think I meet the requirements of the TFR to be on an active flight plan and have a discrete squawk code. She says no, it looks like they have no record of me prescreening and that the "ring" can move. Well, okay. Can I land LGB? She says sure and gives me new routing. I politely follow the new routing and wait to be switched over to the next sector.

The next sector's controller doesn't acknowledge me on the radio on my first three check ins (weird cause I'm IFR, but maybe I just keep catching him at the wrong time?). He gives me some vectors and eventually I decide to ask again "Is there any way I can land CPM?" a different controller's voice comes on the radio and says "You want to land CPM? I'll work on it." and eventually he switches me sectors and that friendly controller voice says it's no problem to land at CPM and is just a breath of fresh air, kindness, and professionalism. Whoever was working it, thank you for being so easy to talk to and helping me out :).
Just thought I'd share...never hurts to ask twice!
