I love my Lazlo—my ghost spider (not pictured) to the moon and back. She helped me realize I really do love caring for spiders and seeing their intricate rituals and behaviors.

I haven’t named this girl yet, but she might be the most beautiful thing I have ever laid eyes on. Her coloration reminds me of broken open walnuts I’d find in the woods, and her fangs are brighter than any of the pictures online could’ve prepared me for.

She is still VERY wary of me—understandable. I figure once I have the cage set up (bioactive, 8 x 8 x 18 I think—it’s very large, a side-opening glass one I bought from the owner, who had some sort of reptile in it before) I’ll leave her alone for awhile and only do minimal work in the cage (feeding, etc).

The shop said they had no idea how old she is. Another redditor suggested she is a fully grown adult, and possibly (?) gravid. Is there any way to accurately tell…? If she’s an adult, I should have about a year with her, right?

Unfortunately the cup they sold her in is… a bad temporary habitat. It’s top-opening and you can see where she’s made hammock after hammock and had them torn when they opened the cup to feed her. Poor thing. I hope after I get her in her cage she won’t ever have a torn hammock again.

I have crickets and mealworms as the current diet plan (Monday mealworm, Friday cricket—sound like an ok schedule?).

The cage is bioactive, with A. Nasatum isopods and white tropical springtails. I have put strawberry vines, live moss, and air plants around, and I’m working on constructing the hides and platforms (I have to do some woodworking…). And of course a thermohygrometer.

Ahhh I’m just. So so excited. I don’t know how I will sleep tonight—I can’t stay up to work on the cage since other people live with me, but I’m so excited to get it done and give her more room to explore and hides so she can feel safer and more secure.

Any advice that veteran jumping spider parents would know? I’m all ears. :)

After a long period of preparation, I have at least gotten my first Regal Jumper
