Irrational worrying about my puppy

Vent

Hello all!

I guess I’m in the midst of puppy blues and adapting to my (and his) new lifestyle.

A little over week ago I adopted the most beautiful, smart and bestest boy. A rescue from Greece, probably a shepherd mix but at this point we’re not sure at all. You can see some pics on my profile. He is about 4 months old and learns very fast. He is very calm for his age and very polite to people. Other dogs are a little scary, but so far he hasn’t reacted aggressive at all. Just cautious with an occasional bark. I believe he’s starting to teeth, which makes him want to bite stuff, but only his toys, blankets or towels. He’s never bit us intentionally.

I live together with my girlfriend and a cat. The cat ignores him most of the time and is rather scared of her new roommate. Once in every while the dog wants to cuddle or play with the cat, which leaves the cat scared so she runs away while hissing and growling. Again: no aggression showing in the dog. Sometimes he will chase her, but in a playful manner. We’re working on ‘no’, if he chases which is going relatively well. If, in the future, the pupper and cat don’t get along we’ll move the cat upstairs. But for now everything is slowly working out.

Now I know this is probably due to the puppy blues but I have INTENSE anxiety of my dog turning aggressive or reactive towards anything, especially my cat. I don’t even know what this fear is based off as I’ve never even seen him aggressive once. Totally irrational, I know. I’ve never had an experience with aggressive dogs, and again, nor has he showed any aggression.

After reading hundreds of story’s about land sharks, adolescence and dogs turning aggressive out of fear on Reddit, I guess I just scared myself. I’m scared of him becoming a terror teen, guarding, and I’m scared of him not staying this cute, polite and obedient.

Maybe I should not read so much and just enjoy his behaviour because he is truly magnificent.

At this point I don’t even know what I’m asking. I probably just wanted to vent and hear if anyone else had these kind of irrational fears.

Thanks for reading. 😂
