Recommendations for best/most authentic "Samurai Experience"?

Hi all,

Has anyone had really positive experiences with a Samurai Experience in Japan? My partner and I will be travelling through Japan (Tokyo, Takayama, Kanazawa, Kyoto and Osaka) for 3 weeks next year. While over there it will be my partner's birthday and I want to surprise him with a cool experience like this. He's super interested in Samurai history and has a background in martial arts which is why I think it would be a good gift. There's quite a few options and I'd hate to book into something that's sub-par or more orientated for children. Thanks!
