will i regret a macan?
long time german/european car person, looking to explore porsche for the first time. almost bought a macan over the summer but decided not to for various reasons. the itch persisted and i'm looking at closing the deal on one (very well-optioned s) before the holidays. but it lacks that "wow" factor that is somewhat synonymous with porsche. i can't lie, that is somewhat of the appeal... that in a time where manufacturers are striving for parity and homogeneity, it's just a very nice car with its own idiosyncrasies. it sounds great and is fun to drive and does many things very well, but is not overtly exciting, if that makes sense.
as a hardcore bmw person, i expect that what i want out of this experience is intrinsic to the ownership of the car long-term, and less about the initial "wow" factor. the bmw->porsche evolution is pretty often spoken about, but always in general terms that focus on long term quality and satisfaction that aren't always immediately apparent. is that accurate?
i'd love to hear from folks who have one (or other porsche models) and like it more than they expected to, or less than they wanted to. just trying to hedge my bets against any regrets. thanks for any input.
edit: huge thanks to everyone for their insight and wisdom. i think i'll buy the car for access to the wonderful community alone. then i can keep you all around to nudge me into the 911 when the kids are out of the house. :)
