Is Uni of Surrey prestigious enough for MSc in AI (Computer Vision, Robotics and ML)?
To give some details, I've got decent commercial R&D experience in AI (different fields, mostly Computer Vision, 4 YOE, big tech companies with lots of investments), and recently got an offer from the Uni of Surrey (MSc Computer Vision, ML and Robotics), for February intake.
Previously got offers from the Uni of Bath and Loughborough too, but turned them down as I didn't find the course structures interesting. With Surrey, the course structure is really good, and the team seems to really know their stuff.
According to pure academic rankings like Shanghai Ranking or csrankings.org (recognized by Yann LeCun), Surrey excels in AI research and is pretty much the best for Computer Vision, you can check yourself. I've also noticed many academics from Oxbridge-level unis who relocate to Surrey's CVSSP to continue their research.
But I'm still figuring out if I'm missing out on something by not going to a Russel Group Uni.
(however, Surrey seems to outshine most Russel Group Unis in AI :)
The concern is, could an interviewer or professor pull the 'I can see Uni of Surrey is not too high in the overall QS ranking and not in Russel Group, so you'll have fewer chances of being admitted to a PhD program, landing a job at a FAANG company (or shortlisted for), and so on' card?
So, still scratching my head, anyone with academic or commercial background got an answer or a hint here?
