Thanks for the confirmation. Any sure fire ways to get rid of them? I don’t think it’s a full on infestation. I can’t find any anywhere but I’d like to make sure.
Do you live in an apartment or a house? I'm in an apartment and see them every now and then, like 3 times a year max. There's no nest in my suite but they're in the building. Unfortunately they'll likely make their way to me at some point in the future. If you're in a house I'm not sure how you could have just 1.
You can use sticky traps to start, to monitor the situation, see if theres more, see where they're coming from. I actually had the same experience as you, in the summer I saw one in my cupboard but I took everything out and couldn't find it (it was hiding in my my food scale, I put it in a ziplock and put it in the freezer and it died and fell out).
Make sure all your food is completely sealed. I get large plastic bins to put my open things in. They like to live in appliances and warm places, outlets, blenders, back of the fridge, back of the stove, etc.
You can get bait, I'm not sure what it's called, I've only ever had exterminators bring it, but it looks like a tan paste and they eat it and take it back to their nest. You can sprinkle diatomaceous earth around cracks and crevaces. I've never found this stuff to do much but I use it anyway just in case. I'd keep a can of raid on hand in case you encounter one.
If you do have a nest in your place, your problem is going to get real bad real fast and you should call pest control asap. Personally I've gone the pest control route in my previous apartments and it never solved the issue, I was always the one to hunt down the nest and kill them all.
We live in a house. I’ll go the sticky trap to start to see if there’s more. I cleaned out all the cupboards just now and while there were some rogue sprinkles and a few chocolate chips, most of the stuff was sealed up tight. Thanks for the tips! I’ll follow this and see how it goes.
If you can, check behind the fridge and inside the fridge. They hate the smell of lavender, so if you have like lavender floor mopping stuff.. I’d use that. They’ll come out if you have more
