Does skipping qualifying impact your skill rating?

I want to improve my passing skills, so starting at the back seems like a solid way to practice. Will it hurt my skill rating though? I don't want to be stuck in lobbies with terrible drivers.

If you can fight your way to the front it won't. I do this because it's more fun and have seen a dip to 4700. I stopped being precious about skill rating as it seems basically meaningless anyway

I never qualify and have a skill rating of ~4800. I tend to finish around 5th to 7th most races, with a few outlier podiums and a few outlier 10-12 finishes. As long as you’re consistently gaining positions every race you should keep a high skill rating.

Honestly at this point in the games' life, I dont think driver rating and skill rating really matter too much. They've still got some work to do with matchmaking and such. I bet 90% of players that come out of the qualifier series 3 races are all placed in "S" and a decent skill rating before they actually complete a different series race. Theres no way everyone in the game has a 4800+ skill rating and S safety. But somehow that's all I see posted and seemingly everyone has. I find it hard to believe that someone who is 2-5 seconds faster/lap has the same 4900+ skill rating as the slower drivers. Ya know?

Moral of my story is don't worry too much about rating and do what makes you happy or builds your skills as a driver.

However to answer your question, no I do not believe that skipping either will affect your ratings. I believe ratings strictly reflect your performance in the actual race.

I came out of the qualifier seris with an s rating, I drove 2 races, and I'm never doing another multiplayer race again. I don't know how anyone can enjoy that clusterf**k.

I start from the back most races and have a 4920

I will add that it's meaningless though. Penalties dont make sense and both ratings don't seem to matter. I don't see new players in my lobbies but i do see players that lose time in every corner because traction control is taking power from them

According to many comments, to improve your skill rating you need to beat someone higher than you. If you're 4500.and you beat a 4501er you go up. Although there seems to be a question around how many times you need to beat them. Loose to a lower rank, go down. So, by that logic it doesn't matter where you start as long as you beat higher ranked players. Then there is the issue about how the lobbies are populated etc. Anyone confirm this?
