Problems erasing a Mac Mini

Mac

I have a 2018 Mac Mini that I am attempting to erase, but I can't because it's impossible to turn off Find My.

I updated the email address on my Apple ID at some point since getting this Mac Mini, that is the only been that Apple ID associated with the device. The iCloud section showed the correct, updated email and there is no problem signing in and out of iCloud. However, when the erase feature gets to the point of turning off Find My it is asking for the password for Apple ID of the old email address.

I enter the current password, doesn't work. I go to iCloud website and try to reset the password for the email address they want and they say that Apple ID doesn't exist (because it doesn't). I go into 1Password and look up the password associated with the Apple ID when I used that email address, doesn't work.

Any idea how to fix this?

Erase from recovery mode

Thanks, I'll have to dig out a wired keyboard.

On the Mac mini are you logged out of your Apple ID when you try to erase it?

Yeah, the first part of the process is signing out of the Apple ID which goes through fine. I can exit the reset process and I'm still signed out. It's just it still shows Find My as active with the prior email address associated to the Apple ID I just signed out of.

Gotcha! You might have to contact Apple Support directly and see if they can resolve that situation.
