Trying to Find the Bottleneck

I currently have a setup similar to the "Router Switch Network Diagram" shown here:

https://lazyadmin.nl/home-network/home-network-diagram/

Major difference is I have another switch added to my primary switch that has an AP, PC, and Xbox on it.

What I'm trying to figure out is if it is normal for PC's and game consoles on the same switch to have network issues when running a game at the same time. I couldn't find much on the subject and was hoping others have ran into it or know where I could be having a bottleneck. Other details below:

  • Router/firewall is an Opnsense device. Gaming related ports open.
  • Have a cat6 shielded run to the main switch (roughly 70ft) from the secondary switch.
  • Have gig speeds on network tests. Granted upload is capped at 25mbps.

QoS may prioritize video calls over video games. So you could try disabling that and see if it makes a difference. You could also artificially limit the bandwidth to each device so the pipe is never saturated by a single device.

I'll definitely try that. Thanks!
