Thoughts on Brennan Marion’s Go Go Offense

OC

Before I start with what I think about Marion’s offense potentially being implemented for Florida if CBN would hire him, I do want to preface that I haven’t paid attention to UNLV much all season and most of the information I’m gonna talk about comes from their bowl game vs Kansas.

Things I liked:

-RPO With a weaker o-line like ours, this could amplify the strength of this offense with our run game and Mertz’s ability to throw short accurate passes

-Rollout play action Once again, with issues at the offensive line getting our QB away from trouble by design allows for potentially more time to make big plays with either his arm/legs

-2 minute offense Offense was fast and very aggressive, definitely a polar opposite of what we are used to under CBN.

-high tempo and wants to put the D on its heels and allows for big play potential which lacked last season

-finds ways to get the best playmakers the ball often

Things I didn’t like:

-repetitive calls Now this could be due to UNLV getting down big and early, but play calling became one note at times. Lots of roll out pass or quick passes but this could have been due to circumstance

-off tackle runs Seems to love to call these, and with our biggest weakness being the OT, this could be an issue for our RBs to have success. This could still be a positive if the oline gets fixed but I worry about it with the current talent at the line.

Overall, I really like what Marion is doing with his schemes. If applied early enough and ran well, our offense could take a huge leap forward on what I considered already a good offense. We would get back to being deadly with our speed and run track meets against defenses, which would be much needed change from our snail paced offense from last season. I think a bunch of our issues from last season on offense would be solved if he would be the hire. But tell me what yall think; or something I may have missed, like I said I haven’t watched UNLV and even though they lost tonight’s game I liked what I saw.

has there even been more smoke since the first smoke? I don’t know why… i really doubt he’s coming here.

Who knows. UNLVs season is now over so if he was/were to come, nothing is holding him back except to turn in his keys. But he's a highly in demand OC / potential coach.. Not sure how much he has left to do with those decisions. Esp with bowl games and holiday.

Liberty plays in 5 days so if it's Korn we probably won't hear anything until then.

Of course those are the rumors, so probably will be neither just like DL chatman.

That's also assuming we hire an OC at all. (Callaway)

If Florida were hiring an OC, we probably wouldn't have to wait for him to finish a bowl game imo

No. I agree.

Yeah, him and Ed O seem to be a package deal of hopium.

There was also “smoke” about him interviewing for the OC position at Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Penn St, as well as the HC at San Diego St.

It just seems like wishful thinking tbh

The Go Go offense could be extremely fun if executed correctly, but I’m not entirely convinced it would work in the SEC.

Do we even have an open coach slot? I don't remember seeing anything about us letting Sale go.... He was posting Gator stuff on Twitter as recently as Dec 22....

And Bateman posted social saying he was ready to work with Graham less than 12 hours he departed.

Wouldn't suggest setting actions to tweets

We don't have a LB coach right now, and presumably one of the OL coaches will be shown the door. an OC has been rumored since pre-season.

Armstrong could coach the LB which is in his wheel house if I remember correctly.

Exactly. Every day it is looking more like an internal promotion or Napier is keeping the play calling duties.

We do not. This all stems from rumors that Billy is/was somehow being forced by boosters to hire an OC. I don't know why people think that we'd be able to attract a top-flight OC anyway considering that Billy is on the hot seat and said OC would have very little job security. I guess people are just bored and hopeful.

People clamoring for him online are same ones calling Billy a racist—ultimately setting themselves up for disappointment when/if Korn is hired as OC. Keep in mind, Korn would be a perfect fit for Lagway’s style of play.

Great positives

The negative is that he won't be hired

We've hired

Really good strength coach

DL coach that wasn't being retained and looking for a job

Nutrition coach that was about to be fired with the rest of the staff

DB coach that was going to be fired with the rest of the staff

We're not exactly stealing coaches that don't need jobs. Marion would be a good hire but the exception of the ones Napier has made rather then his habit

My word man.. How miserable is your life.

The main things I noticed watching the game were related to UNLV's QB. He had happy feet in the pocket, a goofy throwing motion, and threw a number of jump balls. It was hard for me to judge the offense because I was too focused on that.

But in the end, the only "smoke" around Marion has been from nobody's on Twitter trying to will it into existence.
