Why don't more RE games have clear tome leaderboards?
Title. I've seen people say it's due to how people who cheat on the old ones but idk if that tracks. I know that back on the PS3/360 it was a lot easier to modify saves and manipulate leaderboards and as a result a lot games like RE1 and RE0 HD have really borked leaderboards where the top few hundred people consistent of mostly cheated scores, but I rly don't feel like that's a good enough reason to throw the idea out completely. Clearly Capcom isn't anti-leaderboard since they keep them for Mercenaries and actually give them a solid amount of features like sorting by character and what not.
Also seen folks say it's because the games get patched and Capcom will try to patch out even the most harmless skips that no one would ever do on accident in a casual playthrough so times earned prior to a patch would be unbeatable. If that's true then all they'd really have to do is reset the leaderboard every patch (or better yet stop patching glitches that aren't hurting anyone). If they wanted to be really cool they could take a snapshot of the leaderboard before a patch and let players look at where they ranked in past patches. Hell you could even go around the issue entirely and make a seasonal leaderboard akin to games that have Daily/Weekly/Monthly boards as well as All Time. Would be neat if some of the accessories or case charms were given out to people who earned an S+ within a certain "season" of the board. Doesn't even have to have prizes but still.
Been running a lot of RE4R and it's just kinda sad I don't have the ability to really see how I stack up more broadly. I can compare my times to the speedrun leaderboards but there's a bunch of different categories and only 50ish people on the most populated one, which isn't rly a large pool of players even if it is the most competitive pool.
