Hang heavy mirror on drywall?

other

I have a 10’ wall and want to hang my 45 lb, 40” square mirror about 6’ up. The mirror has a French cleat on the top already.

Could I safely get away with using three equally spaced metal drywall anchors instead of anchoring it into a stud? I’ve read that this might be a possibility but I’m a little anxious that it would rip off the wall, crush me and shatter into a million pieces, so I would be so relieved if my fears are unfounded.

The walls has metal studs. If a stud is absolutely necessary, do I need to have a special drill bit, or stud anchor? How do I find the center of the metal stud with my stud finder? I already drilled two holes using it and missed them by .5”. What else do I need to know?

Thanks for reading, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to find past posts about this topic but didn’t quite get all my questions answered.
