Small business rant
I've had my business for about 2 years now. It has grown to quite a good size. It's still a small business but I have around 40 employees. This unfortunately means I deal with the dumbest things on a weekly, especially on holidays.
I absolutely hate it when employees use a "family medical emergency" 20 minutes before the shift begins. Just today I had a guy let me know 30 minutes before it should begin that he could not come in onto this shift because his babysitter was feeling sick and could not come in. He made it clear he was so sorry that he had a call off and that he would be willing to trade a shift with anyone. We were already tight staff at that location because he was the third person that same excuse. I asked him when he thought he could make it into work. He said his girlfriend doesn't get off work till 10:00 p.m. so he felt like that would be too late anyways. I told him him coming into 10:30 p.m. would actually help us a lot because then I could trade his shift to somebody else. He told me he could make that work. I just received a text about 30 minutes ago saying he cannot come in and now he quits, and now I am blocked from his phone.
I love what I do, but this type of crap makes me want to sell the business and work a simple job.
