Hi! I’m pretty new to makeup. I’ve only been using eyeliner for a few years but these past few months are the first time I’ve attempted doing a full face of makeup, so I feel like I’m not quite sure what I’m doing. My foundation always seems to look bad, as in uneven and splotchy, and dry and flaky, and easily comes off.

I’ve tried a few different things so far, like introducing primer and setting spray, which doesn’t really seem to make a difference. As well as waiting longer after I do my skincare to do my makeup, which seems to help a bit but it still doesn’t look good. I’ve been reading about using all water based or all silicone based products which I’m trying to do. I had a couple of questions on this:

1. Is skincare included in this? Can they also be water/silicone based or is it just makeup? I noticed my sunscreen has dimethicone in it.

2. My concealer is apparently water AND silicone based. Is this a problem and is it going to make my makeup look worse? Should I switch to just water based one?

Overall I’m just kind of confused to why my makeup looks so dry and flaky. I do have very dry skin but after I do my skincare it usually looks hydrated and glowy. But as soon as I put makeup on it seems to instantly look dry? I just want to go for that smooth dewy kind of makeup look and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any advice or tips would be super appreciated!

How can I improve the look of my foundation?
