Opinions & Help with Iced Coffee for the office

Hey all,

With spring/summer coming up here in the US I've been doing some research about how to make a good cup of iced coffee. Been brewing for quite a while but never attempted iced. I use a small Bodom french press at work and like that it barely takes up space and makes the exact amount that I need (8-10oz) Seems to be pretty unanimous from what I've seen, that the AeroPress is the way to go. Aerobie has one that is plastic but BPA free, but I have a glass french press and a Chemex at home. Is there another material that would be better for AeroPress? Any tips, comments welcome. I'd love to know what you guys think.

Aeropress is a specific product that is only manufactured by Aerobie so there aren't any alternatives to it.

That being said, I would look into cold brewing, which imo makes the best iced coffee. Should be super easy to just make and then bring to the office.

Make tawtee. This worked well for me by getting a second press (4+ cup) and cold brewing in that. Just use the metal screen to press it and pour it out as needed!

Whoa. It's my ignorance. I shouldn't try to spell phone-ehtically no mores.

There are Toddy brewers out there, but honestly a french press works just fine.

  1. Coarse grind (even more coarse than a regular french press grind)
  2. One particular coffee shop: 0.5lb beans = 4.5 cups of water (This is CONCENTRATED. Do not drink it straight, even though it'll taste amazing.)
  3. Add coffee & cold water to the press. Let it sit ~12 hours at room temperature.
  4. Plunge the press, put it in the fridge and it'll keep for probably up to a week. (3~4 days if you're picky)
  5. When you serve it: Add 3 parts water, 1 part toddy. (This will STILL be strong. I drink 2-3 cups a day, and a cup of iced toddy gives me the jitters)
  6. I usually drink coffee black, but for iced toddy I find a little cream to be delightful. Cold brewing brings out very little acid, so you aren't smothering precious flavors by adding cream like you would adding cream to hot brewed coffee.

Yeah, I think this would work best. It's easy, it's cheap, and it's tasty. I've also found that cold brewing can break the rules a bit. I don't like milk in a lighter roast speciality filter coffee... but it honestly works with some cold brewed speciality coffees.

[This] (http://vimeo.com/41298356) is the method I use. You can adapt it to your Chemex; replace a part of the water with ice and brew like you usally do. Makes a sweet and clean cup of coffee.

Could you make a concentrate at home, using a Toddy or similar set up and bring it to work in a jar for the fridge?
