TRIGGER WARNING: Understanding Funeral Arrangements for Pregnant Women Who Have Passed Away

Advice Needed: Education

*Had to delete and repost on throwaway due to family knowing my main

Dear AskFuneralDirectors community,

I hope to gain some understanding about the funeral process in situations where a woman who was far along in her pregnancy has passed away. I'm trying to learn more about how these cases are typically handled and whether it's possible for the family to request separate funerals e.g (do the ME’s take the baby out to do an autopsy also? Or do the funeral directors?)

Could anyone shed some light on whether it's common for families to ask for two separate funeral services or if the unborn child is typically laid to rest with the mother? Any insights or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm currently pregnant, and I have a real fear of passing while pregnant. With the events in the news lately, I was curious.

Thank you for your understanding and guidance in this sensitive matter.
