[Poll] Swimming lessons for your kid(s) are…

Skills and Milestones

Had an interesting discussion with my partner and some friends tonight. Growing up, I loved swimming lessons and always begged for more, eventually did lifeguarding as well. My husband and his sister HATED swimming, but it was non-negotiable with my FIL who basically told them as kids, “I don’t care if you hate it, you need to know how to swim” and forced them to take lessons until they were competent. I don’t actually know anyone who grew up in my country (Canada) that doesn’t know how to swim. Meanwhile, two of my friends (one from Central Europe, one from India) explained that they never learned to swim and it was never a priority growing up, and sometimes it wasn’t even possible to get swimming lessons.

My son is only 3.5 months old and he’s going for his first parent and tot swim lesson on Monday. Of course it's just for fun at this age, but I fully intend to make sure he learns how to swim in the future. My husband hates swimming but feels the same way. How does everyone else feel about swimming?
