How did pacifist religions like the Quakers manage to hold on to their pacifism in the UK while London was being attacked in WWII?

I think of pacifism as a good thing and I deeply respect the Quakers for their positions on social justice issues. I'm curious how it worked for them in the UK during WWII when the UK was under attack.

Now I know that it's difficult to say any one particular thing about Quaker beliefs as so many of them have very different opinions. However, Quaker meetings always have a clerk and they hold consensus highly even if individual meetings differ on positions.

How did the Quakers handle pacifism during WWII? Or even other so-called "peace churches" during WWII (such as Anabaptists in Germany).
