Has anyone heard of a stereotype that people in Germany fart and burp in public ?

I watched a movie about Mozart, where Wolfgang does a lot of fart jokes. This brought back a memory with my grandparents, who told me that people in Germany fart and burp publicly, and it isn't considered rude. Has anyone else heard this odd stereotype ? Were they misinformed themselves or pulling a joke on me ?
