Do the static exits not always open?

I just made a hail mary run through the swarm one of the static gates in the goblin caves, praying that noone had taken it yet. I get there and the gate is still closed, but i have a campfire so I sit down and wait it out. The door never ended up opening and I died like a fool, is this something new or have I just been lucky in the past that it's never happened?

Also just wanted to say, huge W patch, 3 tier system has been fire so far in my experience
