I have taken french classes for over 3 years and if i take the quiz for explorer i fail

As said in title i have been attending french classes for over 3 years with a French speaking qualified teacher. I can speak french well enough but if i try and progress i cant as my learning is different to duo and i dont know the random nouns. There needs to be a better way to get higher up if you already know the language
