Access samba smb share (lxc container) from windows PC on the same network.

In my proxmox homelab I have 2 hdds (zfs mirrored), that I want to be able to access from a Windows PC on the same network like a NAS. Everyone seems to champion this solution but there is very little info I could find on a lot of the intricacies of the process. I have configured an unprivileged debian lxc container with samba, configured the share, set up the bind mounts, etc. Permissions seem to be the issue I am having (error that I do not have permission to access the share) when trying to login with credentials from the windows machine. I have consulted the documentation and hours youtube tutorials but can' find anything specifically about this step. I have messed around with uid/gid mapping and user/group permissions, and now can add/edit files on the drives from the container which is cool. I just don't know how to get it working with windows. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
