What kind of lawyer should I look for?
My boyfriend and I are discussing marriage - plans to get married in the next 1-2 years.
His parents have a lot of money, and they are wanting to buy us a house in the coming months before we’re married (they are doing a 1031 exchange of a rental property, and then the home goes into my boyfriends estate/trust? and they are passing the deed to us after 12 months of owning the home). We will be paying the mortgage for the remainder of the cost of the home after the down payment they put from the exchange once it is transferred to us.
I know his parents have an irrevocable trust and a prenup requirement, but I don’t know much about estate planning. I am wondering if I should get my own lawyer, and what kind I should get to make sure I am properly represented in this equation.
I don’t think we’ll end up in a divorce scenario, but lots of things happen in life and I want to be prepared. Or god forbid something happens to him in the future after we’re married and have kids.
