Feeling so grateful

I had two texts this evening that have made me really emotional. The first, from an old and very close friend, saying he’d take care of me in a zombie apocalypse. It might not sound like much, but from a man who’s never told anyone he loved them in his whole life, it means a whole lot.

The second was from a new but also very close friend, who just spontaneously said ‘I love you’. We show affection a lot and say I love you a lot, but there was something so sweet and honest about his message that made me feel so seen and cared for.

A decade ago I was convinced that no one would even want to be my friend if they knew the real me, and now I have a group of friends who love me for my true unmasked self, and I can’t put into words how grateful I am for them. I wish I’d known this was waiting for me.
