Welding apprenticeship advice

My 15 year old is leaving school this year and is interested in doing a welding apprenticeship. He is my first child to leave school and I have no idea the best route or where to begin applying for apprenticeships. We have googled and looked at the gov and usual job sites but not having much luck, school are useless. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.
