Would you trust state funded news more/less if it existed?

In Europe many countries have a state owned TV channel for reporting on news. These news organisations are taxpayer funded but are in principle an independent body (I should caveat this by saying this does depend on the country). These are viewed pretty favourably; the idea being that these organisations aren't at the mercy of any advertisers, investors and should be able to report with honesty.

American culture is known for its distrust of the government. So if you had the same setup (completely taxpayer funded and an independent body) would you trust it more or less than the current place you get your news from?
