Thrift Store Inventory in Better Neighborhoods?

Someone else’s post about scoring some thing in a “rich neighborhood” at Goodwill inspired me to ask this question. How do thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army (for example) allocate their inventory around to various stores? Do donations just go to the closest store?
Hoping someone who works at them might see this and answer. TIA.
