Any news on the people trying to develop their own private server or re open the game?

Read an article at work a few weeks ago about a few people who played the game looking to get the rights to open the game up for player once again one being a programmer. Just curious if anyone has heard any news would be interested in playing on pc or ps2 i just want to play my game..i also heard that if they did get the rights to open the game back up that we wouldn't have the old servers or characters on our servers because they have destroyed or gotten rid of them =( i don't really care though in fact i think a new start would be awesome plus maybe new content?
