ENT visit advice

Question

A member of my family who lives in the same house as I do will mostly likely need a visit to an ENT to have a possible throat condition looked at. It’s not urgent but it’s been three weeks since the pain and discomfort started and we’re getting a bit worried.

Naturally, an ENT can’t do their job with a mask in the way. Physical examination of the throat is required here. I live in a red state and the chances of any of the doctors or nurses masking even when asked is near zero.

What should the post-visit protocol be? Should we assume they contracted COVID at the visit and isolate? For how long? I live in a decently-sized house but I also have three cats. I can buy an air mattress and isolate in another room with an air filter, but I’m worried about unmasking at all.
