Is there any way to get Eric to cut the rope in Curators Cut

I’ve tried doing this because I want to see Eric’s dialogue options when Rachel returns with Clarice, but every single time I’m forced to cut the rope as Rachel or else Eric doesn’t do and he falls to his death. Maybe my relationship with Eric and Rachel was too high, and if it’s too low he’ll do it? I dunno, does anyone know if it’s possible, and if so how do you do it?
