A lot of you talk about husbands and boyfriends. I’ve never been in a serious relationship, nor have had a healthy one last more than a year. How do you work with a partner to keep the relationship healthy with your neurodiversity/autism?

General Question/Discussion

I’m the perpetually single woman. Product of divorced parents since I was young - mom and dad always thought the other was scheming against the other. Both my brothers are married/engaged though. Through my life it seems like the only boys attracted to me were the desperate ones, narcissists, addicts, fuck boys. I’ve gone through stages of being happy single, but I’ve also had a lot of lonely times. I feel like I try to be the accommodating person at first, but then my needs suddenly get swept under the rug. I have yet to find a partner who’s okay with me being quiet and needing to spend the evening recharging, likes my idea of spontaneously taking a weekend trip, or comforts me when I feel unsure about being in my own skin. I’m sure with this chain of behavior it’s me, but I have yet to figure out what in me is creating this pattern besides low self-esteem.
