Alhamdulillah, married at last.

Pinned(News)

I have not been an active member recently, but I have good news to share with you guys.

I left Islam in 2020, and like many of you, the journey from then till now hasn't been easy, but it is worth it. I live in a country that is very religious and intolerant of apostasy, often resulting in death for blasphemy.

Initially, I wasn't scared of telling people I am no longer religious. I informed almost all my friends, neighbors, and siblings before the news reached my parents' ears. I shared the truth that I left Islam, presenting strong arguments to support my decision. However, my family made me promise to consult with an Imam, stop telling people about leaving Islam, and continue learning about it with an open mind. They set a condition that if I remain unconvinced after five years, "we will see what happens next."

Faking my true self and values affects my mental health. Being an extrovert, I speak what I believe is right with all my strength. Initially challenging, I still tell people the truth, but now only when they ask or suspect that I am not religious. I hardly pray or participate in any religious activities.

The only reason I didn't face harm is my girlfriend, now my wife. When I first told her about leaving the faith and my reasons, she listened, was terrified at first, but she understood and left as well.

I tried my best to act like a Muslim to get married, and together we planned our next move.

As I write this, my beautiful wife 🥰 is right next to me. I am happy and grateful for this community's support, wisdom, and encouragement.

However, I know the struggle is not over. Living amidst people who can harm us anytime poses challenges. Decisions like not having a child won't be easy without pressure from our parents. Since the word is out, we can be termed as irreligious anytime. I still miss prayers, even though I'm a few steps away from a mosque, and I haven't posted anything related to religion on my social feed.

Any words of advice and support for our next plan of action will be appreciated.

Thank you, Fam.
