Amnesia Overused?
So I'm starting to plan my novel, this is probably the 100th time I'm attempting to write a novel but I'm confident this time it will work out. The only problem at the moment is I'm doubtful of one of the tropes I've picked out for my main character.
I want to write a classic Western-Fantasy where the MC wakes up in the middle of a desert with amnesia, except I was thinking about it and I'm not sure whether you could consider amnesia overused. I didn't want to go down the route of the main plot being him finding out his old memories and who he was, I want to do something like, self-discovery being forced onto him by chance and situation, but even then I'm not sure if it's creative enough.
Obviously these days it's hard to write anything completely original but I'm hoping to get some other opinions on this/the idea. Plus maybe some opinions on how the amnesia could even be caused, it'll be some fantasy/magic element but I'm not too sure.
