House has no heat, afraid of pipes bursting, who can I call to turn off water main? I'm not in town
My house is in Hope Gardens, across from the farmers market.
I'm out of town for a funeral. Heat isn't working in my house. It was 45 in there last night, I don't know what it is right now.
I've had 3 heating companies cancel on me the last 2 days.
It's possible they already burst overnight.
I don't know where my main shutoff valve is. Trust me, I know I should know. I know where the street shutoff is - under snow, of course. I don't know if there is a turn valve inside of that. I've never seen one outside the house, and I don't think it's in the utility closet, but it might be.
Nobody is able to drive right now. Do I call an emergency plumber and tell them to turn off the valve? Anybody have any recommendations? I'm on hold with the water company right now, but I don't even know if the pipes have burst yet. I mean, it's probably 30 degrees in the house at this point...
Desperately wish I were home to deal with this. Could use advice. I don't need heat right now. I only care about the pipes. Well, is there anything else I should be worried about with the low temps and no heat?
