Flat roofs in Grindavik?

My sympathiesto the people of Grindavik. Much of the world is watching the volcanic activities in Iceland. My question is that I see flat roofs in the village. How do these roofs bear a snow load? Roofs are usually pitched in areas with snowfall. Thank you.
